To join The BSCPC you have to either enrol on the professional doctorate and clinical training programme at TCCR , which will lead to full membership of BSCPC, or apply to become an associate member of BSCPC.
Associate Membership
Associate Membership was introduced at the AGM in 2003 to attract into membership of the Society colleagues who have considerable clinical experience of working psychoanalytically with couples. These colleagues, who are often senior in their fields, are likely either to have trained in individual work and obtained couple experience or to have trained as couple counsellors and developed within a psychoanalytic framework.
The Society believes that through promoting this new category of membership the development and representation of psychoanalytically informed couple work can be strengthened for the benefit of the public and members of the Society.
Why become a member?
Associate Membership is likely to appeal to colleagues who work psychoanalytically with couples and who wish to belong to a Society that recognises and supports their practice and professional development through:-
- A programme of CPD activities including conferences, workshops, publications and opportunities for supervision
- Professional registration
- Membership of a couple referral service
- Maintaining links with an international network of colleagues
- Producing a Newsletter and technical papers
- A friendly culture and professional 'home'
How do I know whether I would qualify?
You need to demonstrate competence in three main areas:-
- The knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and technical foundations of couple psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
- The clinical skills required to work psychoanalytically with couples.
- The capacities to work appropriately in different clinical contexts having regard to an ethical framework.
Please download the full application pack(Adobe PDF format) for more details. The pack details the background training and clinical requirements of potential associate members and the processes by which these may be presented and considered in an application.
