Get involved! We need people to help run the pool, to keep it open and make it better

Closing - what does it involve?

We really really need more people who can close the pool at 6pm in the evenings. Once a week, or once a fortnight - it would be a huge help. It's a job that does require a little bit (not a lot) of physical strength, and a bit of common sense and judgement, but otherwise it's a pretty simple process. Usually a one-hour job for one person, or occasionally two people when it gets very busy

Put on a SCCoop vest to make you look all official -- give remaining paddlers a warning that you're closing -- litter pick and empty bins -- clean out pool filter (needs a bit of strength and a spanner) -- net leaves etc out of the pool -- test chlorine levels and add chlorine to the water if necessary. Training given, of course, for all of this!)

Salary - none. Benefits - you get the pool all to yourself in the warm glow of the setting sun. And another warm glow from knowing the pool will open again tomorrow because of you.

Wednesdays - cleaning and maintenance

This is when we clean the pool and work on the surroundings - gardening jobs, painting things etc. For the pool itself, we will either: vacuum the bottom of the pool to remove settled dirt and prevent algae developing, and get rid of leaves etc from the water; or empty the pool completely and wash down the surface, to refill it. At more than 700m² it's a big pool, so this isn't a small job! And it turns out that more hands make lighter work, so if you can do a couple of hours, that's a big help. Every Wednesday in the summer, 10am to 6pm (ish).

Salary - none. Benefits - possible drinks and biscuits, or the Rookery Café will give you a discount on coffee, cake, chips, beer, whatever you need to keep going.

End-of-summer fundraising events

We'll be running some fundraising events at the weekends at the end of this summer, and would hugely appreciated any offers - whether to be involved with organising them, or to be at them, to take donations or act as stewards - or provide First Aid cover if you're qualified (this would be an amazing help).

Get in touch

If you can help with any of this, please don't hesitate (really, don't hesitate, do it now. Now!) to let us know - send us an email to the address at the bottom of this page, or on our Facebook or Instagram accounts. Thank you!
